McCarthy and Kennicott, Alaska in the Wrangell St Elias National Park is an amazing place to visit. Surrounded by mountains and glaciers, the beauty is breathtaking and can’t be beat! There is no place like it on Earth. The valley is completely off-grid. Residents and businesses alike have to supply their own power, water, haul out their own trash, and coordinate getting their own food and supplies. The logistics of living and operating a business here are challenging, however; for most (myself included), they wouldn’t change it for the world.
With so much to do and see, I recommend at least a two-night stay at McCarthy Cabins (our minimum), but three nights (or four) is perfect. This allows two full days to explore the area, take in the incredible scenery, relax in your cabin, and meet local residents. After the long trek here - give yourself the time you deserve to discover the magic of Wrangell St Elias. It’s a very special place! I hope we can share it with you.
